Description

A tall, branching perennial with reddish stems, long clusters of small, white flowers, and dark purple to black berries. Leaves are large and egg-shaped. All parts of the plant are poisonous to humans and livestock.

Open woods, damp thickets, clearings, roadsides

Distribution

Northwestern and southwestern Oregon; Klickitat County, Washington

Dispersal Methods

Birds, seeds as impurities in garden or vegetable seed

Prevention

Look for pokeweed in open natural areas and along roadsides.
