Hi,
I thought I'd pass along something I noted last weekend during the second garlic mustard pulling party with Audubon. Last year we pulled plants in the same area, and the density was impressive. Unfortunately, we pulled late in the season, right at seed set/maturity, so many of the plants were actually popping seeds as we bagged them. I know...it was hard for me to do it then and it's hard for me to think about it now.
However, last Saturday I noted only about 50% of the coverage that I expected. It's still a bit early in the season and we are planning at least one more pre-flowering pulling party in the same area, so these results may not pan out as all that impressive. However, it was interesting to see so few plants. We did see lots of little sprouts, but these pulled out very easily and we got many hundreds (thousands?) of them bagged.
Kyle
